Ari Lennox
Courtney Shanade Salter, better known by her stage name of Ari Lennox, is an American singer and musician who hails from Washington, D.C., who was the first female to be signed to J. Cole's Dreamville Records record label. The first album she released on the label on October 21 2016 with the title Pho. It was then that she gained recognition. Shea Butter Baby is her debut album. The album was released in May of 2019. Ari Lennox began uploading her tracks online in the year 2012 after she dropped her mixtape debut Five Finger Discount, and her debut EP Ariography in 2013. She continued to upload her tracks online through 2014, which included the self-released single Bound. In July of 2015, she was featured on Omen's album Elephant Eyes on the track Sweat it Out. J. Cole, who was part of the Dreamville crew at that time was interested in having her perform on Rihanna and Rihanna-related songs. On the 8th of December, it was announced that she was contracted to Dreamville Records. The singer appeared on the joint album Revenge of the Dreamers II in the track Backseat featuring Cozz. In the month of October, she released her first EP, Pho. Ari Lennox later appeared on J. Cole's song Change and was an opening act on the 4 Your Eyez Only Tour in 2017. She also appeared on the songs Nothing but the Best by EarthGang as well as Icarus with Bas, her labelmates. Ari Lennox dropped her first single Whipped Cream on Shea Butter Baby on July 16. The music video was then followed by a short video in September. On the 9th November, she released another two singles, titled 40 Shades of Choke (and Grampa). On the 13th of November two singles titled No One and pedigree. The singer appeared alongside Cole in the Creed II Soundtrack on Shea Butter Baby, on November 16th, and she released the song as a single by herself on her debut album. A music video debuted on 20 February 2019 to accompany the track. Within the first period of a week, the video had more than 3,000,000 views. The singer was a supporting artist for 6LACK during their From East Atlanta With Love Tour in December 2018.
